Juicing for Healthy Skin

Juicing for Healthy Skin

Daily juicing for healthy skin greatly improves your complexion, and is one of the most powerful things you can do for your health. It is also an easy way to get a variety of fruits and vegetables into your diet.

Raw fruits and vegetables are great sources of vitamins, minerals and enzymes. They also contain phytochemicals, which are compounds that give plants color, flavor and natural disease resistance. Fresh juice contains the whole fruit or vegetable (sans the fiber), including all of the health-promoting components in an easily digestible form. By including a rich assortment of fruits and vegetables in your juicing routine, you get the exclusive benefits that each food has to offer.

Health Benefits of Juicing

Juicing, and eating more raw fruits and vegetables in general, includes some amazing benefits:

  • Excess weight loss
  • Abundant, even energy throughout the day
  • Fewer food cravings
  • Healthier teeth and gums
  • Better rest at night
  • Anti-Aging
  • Helps you build better health at the cellular level
  • Clearer, firmer, healthier looking skin
  • Improves nail and hair growth, texture & strength
  • Improves clarity, focus and productivity
  • Promotes natural cleansing and gentle detox
  • Alkalizing to the body
  • Boosts immunity

How to Get Started Juicing for Healthy Skin

The regular practice of juicing can be a little involved at first, so I’ve put together this handy list of guidelines to get you started on the right track.

What kind of juicer to get: There are two kinds of juicers, centrifugal and masticating. A centrifugal juicer uses fast spinning metal blade that spins against a mesh filter, separating juice from fiber using centrifugal force. A masticating juicer crushes and presses the fruits and vegetables for the highest juice yield. These are better for juicing leafy greens and grasses. For the sake of practicality, I recommend a high quality centrifugal juicer. They’re much faster. Check out this one or this one.

What foods are best to juice: Start simple, using skin-friendly foods that are higher in water content. I start most all of my juices with a handful of baby spinach, then follow with a medium cucumber and 2-3 ribs of celery. To sweeten it up a bit, add ¼ of an apple. This should yield about 12 oz refreshing green juice. It’s important to drink your juice immediately, as it will soon start to oxidize and lose nutrients.

A word about fruits: Don’t overdo it on fruit juice. Use fruits only to mildly sweeten your green juices, otherwise you’ll be getting too much sugar. Eat your fruits instead, as they are excellent for your health. Experiment with the many fruits and vegetables available and see what you prefer.

Other foods that pack a big nutritional punch could be added in small amounts at random. This would include foods like herbs, sprouts, garlic, ginger or turmeric.

Best time of day to juice: Drink 2 12oz green juices per day, a couple of hours after eating. Preferably have one mid-morning and the other mid-afternoon.

Once you get a few things figured out, juicing can become a regular part of your daily diet plan. It’s an easy way to improve your skin and overall health & well-being. Juicing for healthy skin just may turn into a health habit that will serve you wonderfully throughout your life. You will love the way you look and feel.
